As an 11-year-old girl, Rugiatu Nenneh Turay entered the Bondo society expecting songs and celebration. Instead, the pain she experienced changed her life forever. Today, the founder of the Amazonian Initiative Movement has spent more than two decades helping communities abandon female genital cutting, replacing Bondo bushes with schools and turning former practitioners into champions of girls' education.
