Sierra Leone flagged as hub in global cocaine trade
Sierra Leone has been identified as a key hub in the global cocaine trade, according to a new report by the Global Initiative Against Transnational Organized Crime, which highlights West Africa’s growing role as a major transit and warehousing zone for drugs bound for Europe. The report warns that weak enforcement systems, corruption risks, and the presence of foreign criminal networks, such as the Dutch cocaine kingpin Jos Leijdekkers, could entrench trafficking operations and deepen governance vulnerabilities in the country.
