The claim that Michael Berewa, popularly called Myk Berewa, has resigned as Director of Communications in the Office of the President of the Republic of Sierra Leone, as published on Sierraloaded, is false.
Sierraloaded published an article on October 5 with the headline, “Myk Berewa Resigns as Director of Communications, Office of The President”.
This claim was further amplified by the Daily Dose Blog whose Facebook post above carried a similar banner headline: “Myk Berewa Resigns as Director of Communications”.
However, upon contacting Mr. Michael Berewa himself, he refuted the claims and stated that he had not resigned and had no intention of doing so. He confirmed his position as the Director of Communications in the Office of the President.
He said: “I have not resigned; I am still the Director of Communications in the Office of the President.”
The Fritong Post Fact-Checking desk also reached out to the author of the Daily Dose Blog post via WhatsApp, Amb. Penpusher, for clarification, but received no response.
Our evidence shows that the message was delivered at 13:31 and read at 13:36 local time. However, Amb Penpusher did not respond.
Additionally, Sierraloaded claimed that Berewa, who was appointed in October of last year, had resigned after the 2023 Presidential elections and left the country in August. However, Berewa denied these allegations, explaining that he was part of the president’s delegation to the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly and had subsequently visited his family in the United States after the conclusion of the event.
Berewa took to his Facebook page, using the official State House seal, to debunk the Sierraloaded claim and affirm his continued role as the Director of Communications.
Consequently, based on the evidence gathered, it can be concluded that the claim of Michael Berewa’s resignation is false.
