The operations manager of Apex Bank in Kenema has been arrested on allegations of embezzling over one billion leones from the bank. In a briefing yesterday, Senior Superintendent of Police Francis Lebbie said the matter was reported to them on September 6 after which they mounted a raid for the suspect. With the assistance of the bank’s branch manager Emanuel Aiah Ngauja, they were able to apprehend the suspect in Kenema and have brought him down to Freetown.
According to the police, the suspect, Foday Michael Stevens Adikalie Sesay is operations manager of Apex Bank branch in Kenema. Specifically, the allegations are that between 1st July and 31st August 2022, Sesay embezzled more than 1 billion leones, or 1,119,962 in New Leones. Lebbie said the suspect has since been in their custody helping out with the investigation.
